Just a few of my photos of Tuesday’s protest in Montreal, the single biggest act of civil disobedience in Canadian history. Estimates of crowd numbers run from the tens of thousands all the way up to 500,000. The protest marked the 100th day of the Que…

From Orangutan: Video: Montreal Police Officer Pepper-Sprays Protesters
Yet another display of shameless brutality from the City of Montreal Police Service (SPVM). This gem shows “Constable 728” pepper-spraying protesters in an obvious abuse of power. Stay classy SPVM. Stay classy.

Yet another example of shameless brutality coming from the City of Montreal Police Service (SPVM). The video was apparently shot Sunday at the 27th consecutive nightly protest against the Quebec Liberal government’s proposed tuition hikes. At about the 40 second point in the video, you can see the victim’s red

While sitting on an outdoor patio in downtown Montreal Saturday night as the 26th consecutive protest against the Quebec Liberal government’s proposed tuition hikes marched by, bar patrons were treated to pepper spray from the City of Montréal Police Service. With the passing of Bill 78 on Friday, which made the right of Quebec citizens to protest subject to the conditions and controls exercised arbitrarily by the police, the Quebec student movement has further escalated.
The Jean Charest led government, incidentally, is also in the midst of a public-works contracts corruption scandal involving, among other factions, the Mafia.

The latest Ipsos poll paints a rather dreary picture of Liberal fortunes, with what was once the natural governing party languishing more than 15 points behind both the NDP and the Conservatives. Of course, the NDP are in their post-leadership honeymoon, the Liberals don’t have a permanent leader, and a

Way back when, a few months after the last federal election, I replied to the Susan Delacourt’s “Is the Liberal Party dead?” question, echoed ad nauseum in the nation’s press, with a warning to be wary of forcing Canadian politics to fit a certain narrative. That narrative presupposes the inevitability

Thank you for resigning from your position as Quebec Education Minister and giving up politics Monday. Your decision makes the Quebec government just a little bit less corrupt, and, perhaps, just a little bit less incompetent. Best of luck to your replacement, Michelle Courchesne, herself a former Quebec Education Minister, from

#cpc #ndp #tm4pm #cdnpoli Now that I have your attention.. The last two leaders of the Liberal Party of Canada were eviscerated by the Conservative Party attack machine as a way to define their new leader before the Liberals got a chance to define their own leader. So far, the
