New Baird business card attracts controversy

John Baird has certainly raised some eyebrows due to his new business cards.

The Conservative foreign affairs minister demanded customized business cards, contrary to government rules. Baird ordered the word “Canada” dropped from the standard design, also against federal policy.

The controversial changes initially provoked resistance from the senior foreign affairs bureaucrats who are responsible for implementing policies on government branding. But Baird stamped his feet, won a temporary exemption from the rules and got his way.

With the disappearance of the large “Canada,” the biggest type on the card now is “John Baird”. An anonymous source in the foreign affairs office defended his boss, noting that the new card didn’t feature a cowboy hat.
