Karl Rove: Sarah Palin will run

The shiny mettle that used to be Karl Rove is a bit tarnished these days, what with his grand failure of 2006. Anything he says any more is suspect. But he is one thing and that is resilient – and persistent. But his judgement? Hmm. So when Rove comes out and announces that he is certain Sarah Palin will run for the presidency around Labour Day, from the dubious source of Byron York and the Washington Examiner, one has to be cautious.

Careful or not, if it is true, this is news of great celebration for the left and the centre. Sarah Palin entering the race with Michele Bachmann and Rick Perry is a Democratic party’s dream. Think of the entertainment value alone. The GOP debates will be a united banshee whine about Obama with intermittent swipes at each other. Who is the more devout? Who is the true patriot? Who denounces evolution the loudest? Who berates scientists and teachers the most often? Who is the biggest bagger? Who lies the most or makes the most outrageous gaffes?

It will be a show of the century. Grab a seat folks, sit back and watch the fireworks. It will be Mel Brooks and the Keystone Kops with a huge dollop of Three Stooges thrown in.

UPDATE: Fern Hill in the Comments advises that Rachel Maddow thinks Palin will run, too. OK, that elevates the speculation into a more credible sphere. Yippee.
