Sun’s Bonokoski stumbles attacking Kinsella

Warren Kinsella wrote a column recently where he claimed Canada’s media is “overwhelmingly conservative”. That’s not news. Our national newspapers are almost a total conservative monopoly with Sun Media and Postmedia dominating the news country-wide. Both are well-known conservative operations, one originated by a convicted conservative felon.

Then there’s the Globe and its editorial board, which heralded George Bush for most of his eight years dismantling America, celebrated the calamitous Iraq war and endorsed the Conservatives. It’s wall-to-wall Tory enabling. Not a liberal voice in sight. In fact, the Globe fired its only progressive last year.

Now we come to Macleans with its history of at times extreme conservatism, now with celebrated conservative boss Andrew Coyne. Not much more to add that. Conservative. Conservative. Conservative. Overwhelmingly so.

So what’s left? Bonokoski doesn’t tell us. The majority of his whine concerns a John Ibbitson column that said the press gallery hates Stephen Harper. Sixty percent of Canada hates Stephen Harper! Yet 90% of media outlets endorsed Harper’s Conservatives, despite the daily scandals, fear mongering and spendthrift ways.

Using the Globe’s Ibbitson as your primary and almost only source of proof is ridiculous. And lazy. Bonokoski doesn’t provide us with any facts or figures or even mention Post Media. It’s an empty piece of sloppy journalism meant to appeal to the sheep-like Craigslist Cons’ perpetual sense of victimhood.

If Sun Media has proven anything, it is that it will publish anything to further its conservative agenda, even if it crosses the line into illegality. It’s most important legacy is that with every story and opinion piece churned out by QMI, there is no question that facts do indeed have a liberal bias. It’s just too bad Canada doesn’t have any national liberal media to present the other side to the Post/Sun/Macleans/G&M conglomerate.
