Not just blowing bubbles. Officer Bubbles’ victim sues police for $100K.

Not for the cop’s comically threatening behaviour but for the treatment she received in the more than 50 hours she spent in police custody.

Courtney Winkels, then a 20-year-old social worker volunteering as a street medic during the G20, was on the other end of that exchange, and was arrested shortly after.

Winkels says her $100,000 lawsuit has nothing to do with what happened on the now well-known video, but rather the treatment she received in the more than 50 hours she spent in police custody following her arrest for conspiracy to commit an indictable offence, a charge that was thrown out at her first court appearance.

Winkels lawyer Davin Charney said Winkels suffered “cruel and unusual” punishment while in custody, saying his client was sleep deprived and allegedly subjected to inhumane treatment at the temporary detention centre on Eastern Ave.

Of course, Winkels will not win a dime. Awarding her a cent will open the door to the thousands illegally detained with far worse results to their health, both physical and mental, to successfully sue for far greater amounts.
