A TALE OF TWO PROROGATIONS

I didn’t even realize this until today, but apparently this letter to the editor was published in the National Post on February 12.

Re: Look Who’s Proroguing, editorial, Feb. 11.

To suggest that the prorogation of the Ontario Legislature in any way resembles the prorogation of Parliament is to completely deny the facts. The contrast between the actions of Dalton McGuinty and Stephen Harper couldn’t be more stark.

Unlike Mr. McGuinty, Mr. Harper has prorogued twice in 12 months, both times out of obvious naked self interest. Moreover, Mr. Harper is the head of minority government, which is willfully defying an order of the majority of Parliamentarians.

There is an enormous difference between the use of power and the abuse of power. With Mr. Harper, it was the latter that sparked the outrage.
