The Financial Post is the stupid-wing of the National Post. The NatPo manages to publish some actual news, while the Financial Post publishes misinformation that is there simply to anger and confuse people. That’s why I’m angry about their latest hyping of a stunt by climate change deniers like Tim Ball. (http://opinion.financialpost.com/2012/11/29/open-climate-letter-to-un-secretary-general-current-scientific-knowledge-does-not-substantiate-ban-ki-moon-assertions-on-weather-and-climate-say-125-scientists/) This came on […]

Saskboy's Abandoned Stuff: Democracy Reruns
When you’ve blogged for as long as I have, I have the luxury of being able to reference my own writing for most subjects I’m interested in. So right now you get what on TV would be described as a “clip show”. It’ll be good, and some of it is old enough, you may not […]
Continue readingOPSEU Diablogue: Half of Ontario hospitals admit to recent outpatient physiotherapy cuts
The last time the government granted a license to operate a OHIP designated physiotherapy clinic was 1964. This is the alternative government now wants patients to turn to after hospital-based outpatient physiotherapy is eliminated – an almost forgot…
Continue readingGeoff Campbell: Ian McKellen Needs No Publicist
“Find and read a personal profile—some places to look include The New Yorker, Vanity Fair, Salon, etc. Critique what you have read from a public relations point of view. What messages are conveyed? What personal brand has been established? What could have been done differently? You may seek permission to choose a different topic as long as it is related […]

This makes me feel a little better about the world.
Continue readingSaskboy's Abandoned Stuff: Liar, Liar, Head’s On Fire
There’s an excellent animation of this sad situation regarding toxic fire retardants, in the video called “Story of Stuff”, which also explores the messed-up nature of our whole global economic system. It’s one of the decade’s must-watch videos. We don’t want our heads to catch fire while we are sleeping, so our pillows have toxic […]
Continue readingSaskboy's Abandoned Stuff: ConCalls: Waiting til December #RoboCon
Since Canadians are massively under-informed about the status of the legitimacy of their federal government, it seems unlikely to me that millions of them would take to the streets prior to December 10th to demand an earlier hearing in the federal court. So until then, we’ll wait for some justice to get a hearing. I’m […]
Continue readingSaskboy's Abandoned Stuff: Honesty In Politics: Punished, With Good Reason?
If politicians don’t start being a little more brutally honest about some well established facts, and how they endanger life, then expect them to support laws that endanger us all. For instance, if our POS Environment Minister Peter Kent hadn’t made a habit of lying about the danger of climate change, then I wouldn’t be […]
Continue readingOPSEU Diablogue: The Lean Debate – A “Wicked Disease”
John Seddon, a British occupational psychologist, has been a lightning rod for Lean promoters (which he refers to as “tool-heads) over his criticism of Lean. Seddon bases his own work on Taiichi Ohno, the father of the Toyota Production System ……
Continue readingLisaKirbie.com: News Alert: Rob Ford did not apologize
We’ve heard it a million times, the non-apology apology from politicians. It’s when that tiny little word “if” follows “I’m sorry.” (You know, “I’m sorry if I offended you.”) And we shouldn’t let them get away with it. But I think Ford’s grand performance – the halting words, the real emotion – during his presser […]
Continue readingLisaKirbie.com: Grandpa
This post isn’t about politics, rather family and how quickly time can get away from you. My grandfather passed away a few days ago, having lived a very long life. He was my last living grandparent and he, along with my beloved grandma who has been gone for my entire adulthood, were fixtures in my […]
Continue readingOPSEU Diablogue: Family Council Network Four launches long term care letter/petition campaign
Tired of broken promises on long-term care? The Family Council Four Network – the largest of Family Council Networks in Ontario – is organizing a letter writing/petition campaign to improve long-term care. The Council is asking that Ontario: Immedi…
Continue readingLisaKirbie.com: Senator Brazeau and I agree on something
Shocking, I know. Brazeau, risking irritating his master, Stephen Harper, is onside with the opposition Liberals and NDP in asking that an inquiry be called to investigate hundreds of missing and murdered aboriginal women. It’s a disgrace how this government is refusing to do so. The senator has even written a song about it. Brazeau, […]
Continue readingSaskboy's Abandoned Stuff: By-election Monday; Plan to Fix Democracy
Well, the polls are closed in Victoria, Calgary, and Durham, ON so it’s time for some results. Since the voters of Durham were foolish enough to stick with Oda after her first waves of scandal until she burned out from too much $16 orange juice, they obviously stuck with the party of election fraud, and […]
Continue readingLisaKirbie.com: Joyce Murray and her bid for LPC leadership
She announced on the same day, the same time even, as the Rob Ford verdict. Everyone knew days ahead that Monday at 10 am was the Ford decision. This was a strategic error – the Ford story is dominating, everywhere. She announced on the same day we learned Mark Carney was leaving Canada. She announced on the […]
Continue readingIn This Corner: The last word on the Grey Cup.
Final thoughts on Grey Cup C — ‘C’ being the Roman numeral for 100. (This is one of those rare times when using a Roman numeral doesn’t make an event seem more important). Let’s just forget about the game. It was overall a dud, lacking in exciting and/or controversial moments. The Argos just dominated from […]
Continue readingLisaKirbie.com: No one is above the law: Rob Ford is removed from office
I have to be honest, I didn’t see this coming. Last night I was asked my thoughts on the likely outcome of the Ford case. “I hope he’s kicked out of office but, sometimes, elites (generally rich white guys, in my opinion) seem to be able to operate under a set of rules the rest […]
Continue readingSaskboy's Abandoned Stuff: Justin Bieber and Chris Brown
Justin Bieber at the Grey Cup wasn’t the only ‘interesting’ pop music story of yesterday. I’m not a Bieber expert (Belieber), but I did watch his biopic a few months ago, and he’s certainly got some real musical talent. How he is as a human being will probably degrade with his over-worldly fame, but he […]
Continue readingSlap Upside The Head: School Trustee Says Gay Students Should Act Less Gay
If you’re a student in Alberta hoping that the school boards will offer some official protection from anti-gay bullying, it looks like you’re going to have to keep hoping. Last week, the Alberta School Boards Association rejected a proposal to adopt a province-wide anti-bullying policy aimed at protecting GLBT students and staff. So, now that […]
Continue readingIn This Corner: An Edmontonian’s guide to who (whom?) to pull for in the 100th Grey Cup.
So it’s come to this … the nightmare Grey Cup. Calgary versus Toronto. The Centre of the Universe versus The Centre of the New Universe. Old school snobbishness versus new school arrogance. Ugly and uglier. As an Edmontonian and an Eskimo fan, today’s 100th Grey Cup could only be made worse if somehow the Toronto […]
