Bad Karma Comes To All Who Scheme

Much has been said and denied about the painfully obvious strategy the Dipper-Cons have been pursuing in their obsession with destroying the Liberals. Everything they do hinges on the belief that all will be right with their respective worlds if only the Liberals disappear. This is becoming an even more unlikely and unwieldy enemy-of-my-enemy alliance now that the NDP is pulling ahead of Harper in the polls. Ordinary Conservatives are chomping at the bit for Harper to decimate Mulcair with attack ads but nothing of substance has been forthcoming. Harper, it seems, is content to hold his fire until he see the whites of Mulcair’s eyes, presumably closer to election time.

On the other side of such a warped equation, the NDP has to tread a fine line of appearing to take on Harper aggressively without really doing him any damage. Keeping this farce going requires a lot of fancy footwork from both parties and there was much tap dancing recently over Dean Del Mastro’s creative finance funding antics with counter threats fired across the aisle over the NDP’s union funding missteps which resulted in the NDP backing off Del Mastro. Thus goes any “don’t me with us and we won’t mess with you” arrangement. Likely this strategy is beginning to chafe all over the place but the Dipper-Cons can’t have at each other in earnest for fear of driving support to the Liberals. In short, they are trapped.

The best route the Liberals can take is to sidestep the sticky web of Bad Karma that the Dipper-Cons have constructed to trap us and do everything possible to push the two parties involved into conflict with each other so they both get tangled in the threads they’ve woven.

While we’re working through our own residual infighting Bad Karma, the way ahead actually seems clearer for the Liberal Party. Since we’re not stuck in a no-win, strategy feedback loop like our opponents, that frees us up to be a lot more enterprising both in our leadership choices and our policy development.
