I Googled some guy’s name from the paper, and I shed more light than the newspapers themselves.

Some economists say Ontario should remove the HST exemptions on food and other things! Yes, two of them say it! Jack Mintz and Michael Smart say it! They have prestigious positions, and they’re saying it! They actually are saying it! Look, these two economists say we should do this!

The uncritical and thoughtless reporting that comes from some journalists and that is allowed in papers is disgusting and banal. Merely the fact these people are respected (by who? Not me) gives them the authority to opine things without editorial comment or thought.

Let’s look into this duo, and see what can find. From Google, no less. That’s all I did, I typed their names into Google and I learned all I needed to know.

Jack Mintz, writes for the National Post, rails against public pensions, rails against raising the corporate tax rate, and just recently supports removing the HST exemptions.

Don’t forget to mention he’s on the Imperial Oil payroll. That, in no way, shape, or form would get in the way of his judgement, or influence his motivation, right?

Michael Smart is real smart. So smart he’s part of the right-wing corporate sponsored C.D Howe institute.

With minimal digging I can find this information, and it might make a difference before you look into what they have to say. I wish news outlets would understand this, and at least put a disclaimer, so we can know it’s going to be rubbish.

Let’s just look at these very professional and smart economists. Raise HST on people, they say.

Removing exemptions for taxes is tantamount to raising taxes, especially because everyone has to buy food, and that’s one of the exemptions for HST. These two economists are advocating we raise taxes! Oh, but not corporate taxes!

Corporations are sadly starving and suffering, we need to treat them humanely. Leave their taxes low.

But, with HST and sales tax, that’s different. The peons and humans have to pay for that when they buy their essentials. Like food. It’s no biggie, they can pay more.

Okay. I’ll try to be a little more serious now.

We’re still recovering from a recession, and these economists want to raise taxes on everyone. Since everyone has to buy food and what not, they want to raise taxes on everyone. During a recovery.

They want to raise taxes, which will subsequently lower the expendable income of every Canadian, especially those with the least amount. So this means people will be able to buy less things, and those who sell it will make less of a profit, and they’ll be able to buy less things, and the people that provide to them will be able to buy less things, etc. etc.

It’s difficult to be serious when dealing with such morons.
