Broken English

In Arizona, even if you are democratically elected, you can be removed from office by the courts—for not speaking “acceptable” English.

Just another weapon to use against Hispanic Americans in the land of Joe Arpaiao (this time employed, alas, by a Hispanic American political opponent). But the grammar Nazi part of me chuckles inwardly. What if this law had been in place nationally a few short years ago?

“Will the highways on the Internet become more few?”

“Families is where our nation finds hope, where wings take dream.”

“Laura and I are proud to call John and Michelle our friends. I know you’re proud to call him governor. What a good man the Englers are.”

“I don’t need to be subliminabable.”

Maybe those Arizona legislators had a point after all.
