It was a privilege to chair today’s Extraordinary Convention. Along with Convention Returning Officer Beatrice Raffoul and General Secretary Ian McKay, I would like to extend our thanks to all Liberal members who participated in this historic event.

I hope you will agree that this telephone conference resulted in an accessible and open dialogue about our Party’s direction that reflects the values we all share as Liberals.

Today, delegates voted on two amendments to the Liberal Party of Canada Constitution. With these Special Resolutions, the delegates of the Extraordinary Convention decided the following:

To delay the Leadership Vote to a date between March 1, 2013 and June 30, 2013; and
To set the date of the next biennial convention of the Party to 13 – 15 January 2012 in Ottawa.

Again, I thank all of you for taking time from your busy lives to participate in the success of this Extraordinary Convention. It proved to be a remarkable event of balanced and productive debate.
