Like a stopped clock, it turns out that Michele Bachmann may well have been correct when she awkwardly quipped in the most recent Republican debate that “the devil is in the details” regarding Herman Cain’s ludicrous “9-9-9” plan for overhauling … Continue reading →

Continue readingPeace, order and good government, eh?: Oops, they did it again
It’s been a pattern with the Harper Government™ — when a decision is made to cut or eliminate funding to a long time partner, the department involved seems to go out of its way to be cruel about it. Environment Minister Peter Kent has cancelled a 34-year-old funding partnership with a major grassroots network that has helped the federal government deliver landmark policy and legislative changes to crack down on industrial polluters and protect fragile ecosystems. The Canadian Environmental Network, which helped the government engage the public in the creation of the Canadian Environmental Assessment Agency as well as the adoption of the Canadian Environmental Protection Act, was actually told by Environment Canada in May that the government was expecting to renew funding of about $547,000 for the year. My emphasis. Now they’re laying off staff and shutting down temporarily while they try to make other funding arrangements. With a little notice, they might have been able to make a smoother transition. Hasn’t that become a familiar story in recent years? Is it just incompetence? Or do they enjoy punishing people just because they can?…

There are many things that the conservative Harper government is currently doing that get on my nerves. The introduction of the word Royal ahead of the term Canadian Forces, now known as the Royal Canadian Forces, was a bit of a stretch, but hey, we can let this one slide

Get your pens out, but make sure you get your vocal chords ready too. It’s time for a deeply philosophical discussion. And what does a philosophy discussion consist of? Overestimation, arrogance and typically a disregard for nuances. Broad overestimations backed by arrogance pave the way for many wonderful theories on the meaning
