Cops Behaving Badly: Dumb on a DARE

Was this dude even remotely aware of the irony of what he was doing? If not, he is now:

Sgt. Jerry Goodin, public information officer with the Indiana State Police Post at Sellersburg said Seymour Police Officer John C. Newcomb, 38, of Salem was arrested after the 1992 Ford Ranger he was driving north on Main Street (Indiana 135) in Salem sideswiped a vehicle and left the road late Wednesday.

Trooper Travis Baker investigated the wreck and reported that Newcomb sustained minor injuries but was not hospitalized.

Newcomb, who is Seymour’s school resource officer, was booked into the Washington County Jail at 12:55 a.m. Thursday on a charge of operating while intoxicated and with a blood alcohol content of 0.14.

[…]

Seymour Police Chief Bill Abbott said he is awaiting a state police report and a chance to speak with Newcomb before making any recommendations about the matter to the Seymour Board of Public Works. No recommendation was expected when the board met at 11 a.m. Thursday.

“Nothing good can come of this,” Abbott said.

Abbott confirmed Newcomb was pulling a DARE trailer owned by the city. DARE is the department’s Drug Abuse Resistance Education program.

And we wonder why there’s such a drug problem in schools.

Shyeah.
