Triple E Senate: (Un) Ethical, (Un) Elected, Expendable

Senators in the Upper House have a duty to represent their province. They are unelected and appointed by the Prime Minister of the day. Recently, senators have overturned bills that have been passed by the majority of the House of Commons. What is the purpose, then, of the Senate? To be a repopsitory of “sober second thought” is the common refrain. Lately, however, it has seemed more like a repository of failed candidates and party hacks. The NDP focuses their attention on the Conservative Senators that have been campaigning here (they’ve dubbed it the Senators’ Tour) but don’t mistake this for meaning ONLY Conservative Senators are campaigning for Conservative Candidates. Liberal Senators are to. And not just Senators, but also city mayors.  See this tweet from a friend Jay Spears reagarding just such a think happening in Oakville.

Does this strike anyone else but me as odd? That Senators who are suppose to represent their province are instead, on our dime, representing the party who put them where they are? This is just as slimy as when Trudeau appointed a tone of Senators after he left office in 1984. It’s despicable. It’s unacceptable. It’s contemptuous. Something that the government is used to at this point, from the looks of things.
