Stephen Harper is dead-set on killing the census for the same reason he is dead-set on undermining the tax base and spending us into oblivion on his own special interests.
Without accurate and reliable census data, certain communities and groups who lack other information-collecting resources will have a difficult time mounting evidence to support their requests for federal funding.
Pointing to this lack of evidence, Stephen Harper will have the political wiggle-room to deem the social program redundant or unnecessary, while prattling on about getting tough on the “special interest groups” raiding the treasury, and bingo: He’s a fiscal conservative again.
And not only has he managed to cut social spending, but the people will love him for it…because let’s face it: cutting the fat of greedy special interest groups is a far better storyline than a confusing bunch of B.S. about census data.
