Geert Wilders acquitted. This is not a ‘blow for freedom’.

Charges against Geert Wilders for defamation have been dismissed. The Dutch court has found no reason to convict the hate speech warrior. Wilders has been vetted by courts and found to be not guilty. I can accept that.

What disturbs me is that rightblogs are using this defamation suit as a blow for ‘freedom’. It is nothing of the sort. It is a defamation suit, pure and simple. The laws governing defamation have to do with interpretation of those laws and have nothing to do with striking blows for freedom.

Get a handle, Atlas and other Islamophobes. We can all choose to say  “hurtful,” “shocking” and “offensive” things if we want to, but do we want to always revert to that as your modus operandi? Expect Levant and Shaidle to come out with both racist barrels firing in the future. It will be a free-for-all and someone will get sued. (Oops, too late.)
