Reaching once again into his Magic Tickle Trunk of Recycled Republicanisms, Stephen Harper has trotted out some nifty new EI reform policies. You can’t blame him though. When you’ve never had any real ideas of your own what choice do you have but to “borrow” whatever’s on offer from your ideological kin. Of course those idiots have been recycling the same ideas since time began. But no matter. Conservatives the world over are using the cover of austerity measures to pursue their tired, punitive agendas whilst digging themselves out of deficit. Cutting EI payouts is just one great way to it! Really, it’s a win-win all around for Harper. Blackmail people into taking lower paying jobs in unrelated fields and you lower the cost of the workforce across the board. Take that Big Labour! It’s also an efficient strategy to herd all those “lazy” layabouts off the federal EI ledgers and onto provincial welfare rolls. Let those bleeding heart lefty provincial governments figure out what to do with them. Call it trickle down misery. Who needs ideas that actually help people get work when you can just sweep them under the rug out of sight! Once again Made in America Republican Badassery wins out over governing that actually cares what happens to Canadians struggling to find work.
