“We’re sick of all our kicks. We’re sick of all the stiffs. We’re bored.”
Canada’s Chattering Class seems to be dead set on talking about nothing else except a Justin Trudeau leadership run. I don’t know a single Liberal who is pushing this idea or talking about it with the religious zeal the media is. Mr. Trudeau has given all his reasons why he’s not running but still they persist.
Can’t you just picture them, huddled in a bar somewhere, heads together going: “Wouldn’t it be super fun to cover Bob Rae versus Justin Trudeau?” or “Dear God us, put a fork in our eyes if we have to cover the next three years and an election with the same boring old stiffs” aka Harper, Mulcair and Rae. Why? They’d have to come up with something new to talk about instead of the same tedious tabloid claptrap they’ve been pumping out year after year since Harper became PM.
Don’t get me wrong. If Justin Trudeau wanted to run for the leadership, I’d be all for it. I’m all for anyone with a sincere interest running. I’m ready and waiting to see what comes next. I’ve got an open mind. Calling all Liberal leadership candidates. Bring forth the full force of your ideas, creativity, passion, intelligence. Talk to me honestly about Canada and how we can solve the challenges we face and I’m all ears.
As for those others, those eager, bloodthirsty, unimaginative pack of jackals, all they want is to be amused. They hunger for a political reality show that puts bums in seats to make their corporate masters happy and rich. They don’t care about the country or the human cost to anyone, least of all the politicians they love to stalk or their families. So I really can’t blame a politician for thinking twice about subjecting themselves to the tabloid journalism that drowns out all reason, the non-stop personal attack ads and all the other ugliness that comes with what’s become the equivalent of a bear baiting pit in Canadian politics.
As for the much discussed “Draft Justin Trudeau For Leader” movement the media keeps talking about, I couldn’t find one website or blog. Before the 2006 leadership race even began such sites were afoot. So if there really is an army of Trudeau-maniacs out there just waiting to leap into action, maybe it’s time to put your money where your mouths are. Go to the Liberal website and make a donation and you can leave a note with your donation saying why you want Justin Trudeau to run for the leadership. If not, please move along cuz there’s nothing to see here.
