Remember the Dixie Chicks when they compared Bush to Hitler? There was an ugly kickback, with country music stations banning the band’s music, accompanied by death threats and despicable editorials in conservative newspapers.
Contrast that today with the silence of those same radio stations in the face of Hank Williams Jr. doing the same thing – this time with Obama – in the confines of Fox News. Where’s the outrage?
I bet the very people and stations who were so enraged with Natalie Maines not only do not censure Williams but actually elevate him into some sort of American national hero. You see, it’s never been about something as bland as politics or economics. It has everything to do with the colour of one’s skin and the party to which they belong.
So, if the folks at ESPN are dropping Williams’ theme song for tonight but won’t commit to dropping the stupid, ignorant theme for the rest of the season, we will know without a doubt what side of the bread they butter.
