Male, female or indeterminate? Australian passports add gender option.

Something you will likely never see in the USA and certainly not in Canada under a Conservative government.

In a worldwide first, Australians will be able to choose from three gender options when they apply for a passport: male, female and indeterminate. The revamped guidelines are intended to reduce discrimination against transgender and intersex Australians abroad.

“This initiative is in line with the Australian Government’s commitment to remove discrimination on the grounds of sexual orientation or sex and gender identity,” said the Australian Passport Office. “The policy removes unnecessary obstacles to recording a person’s preferred gender in their passport.”

Australians have come a long way from poodle Howard.
