Stephen Harper and several members of his
cabinet have left for a six-day trip to Latin America to “bolster trade” with
countries there, particularly Brazil, and sign a bunch of agreements while
they’re there. Oh, and they’re charging this all to department budgets rather
than their ministerial ones, so that it can be taken out of programme spending
instead of making it look like they’re spending money on travel – which of
course they are.
Despite the fact that there is a court case
now pending, Justice Minister Rob Nicholson says the euthanasia issue is not up
for debate, seeing as Parliament voted to kill a private member’s bill on the
subject last year. Funny, but maybe the courts will say otherwise, meaning
perhaps we should continue to have a proper debate, not the two hours that a
PMB gets for second reading.
CSIS has leaked a document that cast suspicion
on two former terror suspects that courts have previously deemed to not be a
threat. The timing of the leak is also suspicious, considering their attempts
to get off of UN no-fly lists.
