You’d think with the hits the conservative media is taking from Murdoch’s shenanigans it would be careful to avoid seeming unseemly and corrupt. But not Sun Media. It has pulled out of the Ontario Press Council because it can’t adhere to the watchdog’s standards, calling them ‘politically correct’. This is all a little to precious but so indicative of the Conservative party and its mendacious media (emphasis mine).
Glenn Garnett, vice-president of editorial at Sun Media, sent a letter this week saying that effective immediately the company’s newspapers are withdrawing their membership.
The Ontario Press Council investigates complaints about some of the largest newspapers in Canada, including the Globe and Mail and the Toronto Star.
The council is made up of representatives of its member newspapers which, until this week, included Sun Media staff.
Garnett writes that Sun Media can’t be “bound by the interpretations” of its competitors on its journalistic obligations and objectives.
