| The Harper Cup, 2011? |
With the realization that the Vancouver Canucks may actually win NHL’s biggest prize, Stephen Harper’s office is working furiously to rename the Stanley Cup, ‘Harper Cup’. Strong-arming CBC to post an interview with him in the moments leading up game 2 is one thing but officials close to Harper tell Let Freedom Rain that negotiations are currently underway between the Prime Minister’s office and NHL brass concerning the name change.
The main sticking point so far is Harper’s demand that he be the first to hoist the cup should the Canucks win (wearing a Flames jersey whilst doing so has already been ruled out by the league – an offer of a Senate seat to Bettman was also turned down). We’ll keep you posted.
