A young Conservative who denies her conservatism is like a person who says, “I’m not racist but…”. Supriya Dwivedi does just that in her vain attempt to smear Brigette DePape. Dwivedi begins her HuffPo attack on DePape dishonestly and ends it the same way.
A tantrum is defined as a ‘fit of bad temper’. DePape has been calm, lucid and mostly quiet. She has not raised her voice – in fact during her 20-second protest, she was silent. To rant that DePape threw a ‘tantrum’ is the epitome of dishonesty.
Dwivedi calls this name calling of hers, ‘rational, mature discussion’. She goes out of her way to present the Conservative platform to smear DePape, ending her ‘rational’ arguments with insult. It’s the classic Conservative move. Act as if you are rational, then zing the object of your ire with personal insults. In fact, Supriya does everything but call DePape a dirty fucking hippie. Her post is so full of Conservative talking points I was surprised she didn’t end it with the common Con finger-waving attack: “Just grow up!”
Brigette DePape’s brief, quiet, noble stand will live much longer in our history than the current Conservative majority. That iconic image represents quiet resolve and new imagery to counter the overwhelming Conservative media that dominates our information, something that Dwivedi is loathe to acknowledge.
It would be great to play the game as it is presented to us. Sometimes you have break the rules. Sometimes you have make a stand. DePape did that. Quietly and forcefully. What she didn’t do was throw a tantrum. To say so is just so much dishonesty. And it’s the kind of cheap shot presented as a ‘rational argument’ we’ve grown accustomed to from our Conservative friends.
