I imagine that all of my photo friends have wondered whether I fell off the face of the earth! Suffice to say there have been technical difficulties. Thank you for standing by. Your patience is appreciated.
This weeks theme was LINES and we have some very interesting submissions. But you can be the judge, the pics are below.
If you want to join in on the fun for the upcoming themes, review the Rules are posted in the Photo Challenge link at the top of this page, and then send me a message via email or the contact form.
For those already participating, please feel free to encourage more of your photography inclined friends to join in as well. More friends equals more fun! Try sharing this post on your facebook page, so you can brag about your photo!
For eligible voters (if you’ve submitted a pic in this or one of the last two challenges) please vote on your top three choices. As usual, I’ll post the results as soon as all the eligible votes are in or by next Wednesday, whichever comes first. (Subject to the limitations of my spare time, of course!)
This theme # 20 is not actually a theme at all, but an assignment actually. It takes a wee bit of explanation, so please bear with me. Here’s what I’ve come up with:
- The assignment is titled NOSTALGIC FOR FILM.
- Despite the fact that we are all using digital cameras, the assignment is to pretend you are shooting film. That means you have a single roll of 24 pictures and only 24 pictures. You must commit before pushing the shutter button that this is one of your 24.
- For clarity, you are not allowed to practice the shot and then take one of your 24. You must pretend you have film in your camera. I intend to do this with a separate memory card dedicated to this assignment, so I won’t be mixing in any other pics. I’d highly recommend this, if you can swing it.
- Your subjects can be anything you want. You can do a series, or different pics like one landscape, one macro, one portrait, etc. Whatever you want, it’s wide open.
- Once you have taken your 24 pics, bring them into the computer and edit as needed, but limit yourself to only those things you could have done in a darkroom. That means you can adjust exposure and contrast and stuff but not use photoshop to push pixels around. If in doubt, ask, and we will make a determination about what’s allowed.
- Choose your best 3 shots out of your 24 and submit all three.
- Voting will be based on what we like as the best collection of 3 photos, not just a single pic.
Happy shooting!
Submissions are due on Wednesday May 25, 2011 by 10:00 pm. Wednesday June 1, 2011 by 7:00 pm. (I’ve added a week since I’ve been so delayed with this post and a couple of hours to the usual deadline since the days are getting longer and I happen to know that I’m otherwise engaged on that evening, so I won’t be getting to the post so early.
Now enjoy the pics! And remember…
“Don’t just take pictures, make pictures!”
UPDATE: May 21, 2011
It seems a shame when people who regularly participate in this challenge fail to register a vote, particularly when it’s a close race. In this case, we’re still waiting on votes from Jason Nodtvedt and Stephanie MacDonald who did not submit photo’s this round, and more surprisingly Richard Sunnucks and Wendy Taylor, both of whom did.
In a very tight race Lisa Bourgault gets her first win with Palm Fronds, narrowly beating Wendy’s Clothes Line based on the number of first place votes. Congrats Lisa! Well done! We look forward to what you have in mind for the upcoming theme. Be sure to send it to me with your NOSTALGIA pics.
UPDATE: May 26, 2011
Since the deadline has passed and I have received no entries for the latest challenge, I’m extending the deadline another week to Wednesday June 1, 2011 by 7:00 pm. This will give us an extra weekend to take some pictures. Alternatively, if there are regular participants who don’t like this particular challenge and have no intention of entering it, let me know in the comments so we can move on to something else.
