Oops, we failed to follow policy…

There’ll be more on this on the E-B’s site in the next few hours, once I figure out how to write this up.
However, I can say this, based on my reading of the municipality’s naming policy.
That is this – council blew it. And no, this has nothing to do with Peter Dunbar, and naming anything after Peter (see below for my thoughts on that).
According to the town’s naming policy, “council will discuss in camera any names of recognition of an individual prior to discussing with the individual or next of kin.”
Because that very definitive statement in the policy was ignored or overlooked, this has the appearance of a decision being rammed through – even though I understand that was never the intent of the trails committee, or the naming committee, or anyone involved in this particular decision…
And in doing so, the decision to recognize an individual – regardless of whether you believe that person is deserving, that’s entirely extraneous at this point – is tainted…
