So, my loyal readers, I’m sure that you’ve all been keeping up to date on the activities. Well, the police went overboard (like I predicted) and brutalized SO many people. My girlfriend was part of the group that got boxed in on Queen and Spadina on Sunday… I was so scared! But she got out safely, thank God.
She told me that there were thousands of cops, many, many more than the number of protesters. And Tara told me that so few of the cops had badge numbers/names on their uniforms. And the protesters that want to file complaints are unable to do so, even though Police Chief Blair of the Toronto Police claims that ‘they have a process for that’… well, the problem being that the cops that make up the ISU (Integrated Security Unit) are from forces all across Canada, plus members of the OPP and RCMP. Interestingly, the ISU was created for the Vancouver Olympics security, which is why seeing ISU was ringing bells for me. So I knew that their attitude was already really bad, and I knew that the whole situation was going to explode.
Go on YouTube if you get a chance, and watch some of the videos… it seems really brutal, and it is, but what I’m trying to get people to remember is that this is what these cops are like 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, to people on the street. This is what we have to deal with every day. Cops brutalizing us and our friends for no apparent reason; cops insulting us and destroying any shred of self-esteem that we might have had.
Well, Wendy is coming to Ottawa tomorrow! I’m so excited, I was so sure that it was going to be a month before I could hold her in my arms; and now I get to see her so soon! I’m going to bring her around to all the places I work and introduce her to all my friends, etc. We’re going to go see the Queen on Parliament Hill and heckle her… plus we’re going to hold hands and watch the fireworks together… and get drunk and rowdy! I’ve got to find a place for us to go where we can have some alone time, because even though she’s staying with me and my dad and grandmother, we’re not sleeping in the same bed (which is so old-school)… so yeah.
We need some alone time!
I really like this girl, but I’m so nervous and anxious… I really have to drop these thoughts before they poison my attitude. I’m really worried that I’m going to lose her, just like I’ve lost every other girl. Her only hesitancy is around dating an active drug user, so I’m going to try and get clean before I move down to Toronto to be with her. But it’s going to be so hard… at least I have a good reason now! This girl is so incredible, I thought that my list of accomplishments was getting pretty big, and had some cool stuff on it, but hers outshines mine by a thousand times. I can’t believe how much she has done for her community, and all the activism she’s done! It’s really, really humbling.
I think it’s really good that she’s older than me (6 years older, to be exact) because all the other girls have been, basically, too immature for me. I mean, I’m only 22 in September, but I am probably more mature than the average 21-year-old. And I need someone that matches that, and I think I found her.
Anyway, enough gushing about my baby. I hope you all call your MP/MPP and cause a stink about the police brutality at the G20. They’re going to deny, deny, deny, excuse, excuse, excuse, so stay on them hard! Amnesty International (who I usually despise) is calling for a public inquiry into the conditions that detainees were taken into, and I really hope the gov’t does it. The public will be surprised to see what really happened behind the scenes there.
Oh yeah, and I’ve been collaborating with a girl named Dawn. She has such a beautiful voice! Together we really kick some ass. I’m going to be playing at the Royal Oak in the UOttawa on Thursday, and I’m going to take Wendy and dedicate a song to her! Should be pretty awesome…
Keep coming back! Cause I’m trying to update more often now.
