2011 turning out to be good year for women elected to Congress

Especially for Democratic women.

It’s an under-reported story of 2011, and one that advocates of Democratic women say could be part of the story of the more feisty Democratic party that has emerged in recent months.

Let’s breakdown the history. Heading into the 2010 elections, there were 73 women in the House (including . . . → Read More: 2011 turning out to be good year for women elected to Congress

Quebecor Paranoia Grows-Demands CBC-Rado Canada To Remove Certain Offending Portions From Web Site

Not long ago, Jymn covered the CBC, coming armed with certain facts about Quebecor.  A few things Quebecor won’t tell us. Let’s refresh our memories, here.

Quebecor has received more than half a billion dollars in direct and indirect subsidies and benefits from Canadian taxpayers over the past three years, yet it is not . . . → Read More: Quebecor Paranoia Grows-Demands CBC-Rado Canada To Remove Certain Offending Portions From Web Site

“Just like that, the English-Canadian Conservative coalition is cemented, coast to coast.”

“…with barely a whisper of opposition”.

This is Harper’s first home run, bases loaded — and all the more remarkable because it isn’t being acknowledged as such, yet. Conservatives are too busy high-fiving each other in their suites at the Chateau Laurier to crow. Nor would they wish to: It wouldn’t agree with . . . → Read More: “Just like that, the English-Canadian Conservative coalition is cemented, coast to coast.”

Poor Pierre Karl Peladeau. Playing the victim again. Paranoid, too.

Most likely spurred by the facts presented by the CBC about Quebecor’s welfare habit, the media chain’s chief came out firing today against the ‘state broadcaster’. Problem is, Peladeau came off wimpy and whiny, somehow befitting a news chain known for its self victimization and pouting. Not only that, there was a whiff of paranoia . . . → Read More: Poor Pierre Karl Peladeau. Playing the victim again. Paranoid, too.

Canadian firm postpones kicking Occupy Wall Street out of park. Police beat jubilant protesters.

So it goes in OWS land. Not long after hearing that the Canadian company responsible for kicking out the protesters from Zuccotti Park had backed down, police resumed their indiscriminate head bashing of wayward protest members. At one point a motorcycle cop ran over a pedestrian.

Interesting to note how the media has . . . → Read More: Canadian firm postpones kicking Occupy Wall Street out of park. Police beat jubilant protesters.

Another step down the Conservative evolutionary scale. Sun runs homophobic McVety ad. Bonus Shaidle charm offensive.

Conservatives have a very well defined hierarchy of idiocy. The National Post is about midway down the pack, excelling at Disingenuous, Lacks Moral Clarity and Will Do Anything to Further a Conservative Meme. Not to mention the bottom of the pack for Empathy.

Then you have Sun Media. It’s right there in the basement, . . . → Read More: Another step down the Conservative evolutionary scale. Sun runs homophobic McVety ad. Bonus Shaidle charm offensive.

Canada’s Shame

We are mute with shame here in Canada.  Shame for our Professional Media.  Even our beloved CBC doesn’t have the decency to cover the new American Revolution.  You were there for Egypt, you covered the hell out of Libya, sickeningly slick graphics and foreboding intro music and all.  But when our biggest trading . . . → Read More: Canada’s Shame

BREAKING. Fox News North quotes Margaret Atwood: “Libaries (sic) cause cancer”

Well, not the real Sun News Network. But 22 Minutes’ Geri Hall does a bang-on impression of a Krista Erickson Fox News North type host ‘quizzing’ Margaret Atwood. It goes something like this:

Host: “Don’t libaries (sic) cause cancer”?

Atwood: “Of course not”.

Host “Oh, I didn’t realize you were a medical doctor? . . . → Read More: BREAKING. Fox News North quotes Margaret Atwood: “Libaries (sic) cause cancer”

Vancouver Sun: Canada’s economic miracle exposed

Dan Gardner goes in-depth on what is really a simple story. The Liberals established a solid economic foundation, preparing Canada in the case of hard times … or Conservatives. Both have happened. Once in power, the Conservatives promptly took the credit for Canada’s economic stewardship. As the country’s deficit continues to grow and government . . . → Read More: Vancouver Sun: Canada’s economic miracle exposed

Sun News Network and the emasculation of the North American right wing

I haven’t had that much exposure to Fox News North but from what I’ve seen there’s obviously something fishy happening at that network which is symptomatic of a bigger issue with the North American right-wing male of the species. Listening to Brian Lilley’s chipmunk voice or recoiling from Mark Bonokoski’s lispy spittle or . . . → Read More: Sun News Network and the emasculation of the North American right wing

Toronto Star’s Token Con Cheerleader Angelo Perischilli to Become New Harper Mouthpiece

Yes, boys ‘n’ girls, Angelo Perischilli is replacing Dimitri Soudas as Stevie Spiteful’s mouthpiece.  I guess all that Harpercon sucking up and Liberal derangement syndrome has paid off.  No, he doesn’t parle en Francais, which leads me to believe that Steve really doesn’t care much for French speaking Canadians, particularly Quebecers.  I mean, if . . . → Read More: Toronto Star’s Token Con Cheerleader Angelo Perischilli to Become New Harper Mouthpiece

Germs ate my newspaper!

At last! A use for the modern newspaper! For society’s benefit!

In what sounds like a scenario out of your dream horror flick, imagine Blatchford, Will, Noonan, Wente, Kay ink devoured by bacteria, never to serve their right-wing masters again. Watch as their tattered paper remains turn into something useful for society and not . . . → Read More: Germs ate my newspaper!

“Put him in ground, for god’s sake”: Ezra Levant wears orange wig, drinks Orange Crush. Mocks Layton’s passing.

I thought the right couldn’t dive any lower but Ezra Levant and Michael Coren did just that on Fox News North. What can I say? Not even Fox News would ever go this low.

You still think Christie Blatchford’s opening salvo across the bow was a kindness? To all those journalists who . . . → Read More: “Put him in ground, for god’s sake”: Ezra Levant wears orange wig, drinks Orange Crush. Mocks Layton’s passing.

Jonathan Kay defends Christie Blatchford’s indefensible column on Jack Layton

Yesterday, Christie Blatchford wrote a column for the National Post full of back handed compliments to Jack Layton on the day his death. Between the lines, however, lay a great streak of right-winged opportunism, attacking the man and his party for their beliefs and actions. Using terms like ‘vainglorious’ and ‘sophistry’, Blatchford used . . . → Read More: Jonathan Kay defends Christie Blatchford’s indefensible column on Jack Layton

But I Thought The CBC Had a Two Year Cooling Off Period With Ex-Politicians-Juxtapose!

I know I’m going to need to be heavily sedated after writing the first sentence, but I find myself in agreement with the Blogging SupposiTory resident McCarthyist, BC Blue today. I am asking the same question he is today:

Why is CBC allowing Stockwell Day to break their 2 year cooling off policy?
