Many die hard Liberals are questioning the validity of voting for the NDP. Many go so far as to say a vote for the NDP is a vote for the Conservatives. I don’t believe in telling people how to vote and for those Liberals that don’t understand how ballots work.

The Global Express: UPDATE: Special Ballot in Guelph a Mistake Afterall
From my last report, the facts about the Special Ballot vote at the University of Guelph spoke for themselves. Why was all the blame being put on the Conservative Party after one of their members reportedly tried to stop a vote that shouldn’t have happened to begin with. Why isn’t
Continue readingThe Global Express: Special Ballot in Guelph a Mistake Afterall
It’s very easy to criticize someone for a wrong-doing. After all, its human nature to put others down in order to make ourselves look good. Finding the truth has become a secondary act. A Special Ballot was held at the University of Guelph on Wednesday where 241 votes were cast.
Continue readingTerahertz: 2 votes, 2 weeks
May 11th. Just over one week after the federal election, myself and voters of Vancouver-Point Grey will be going back to the polls to vote for/against Christy Clark in the byelection she just announced. Perhaps she’s hoping that since the NDP don’t even have a leader yet (not till Sunday) and are likely busy fighting […]
Continue readingProgressive Proselytizing: Strategic voting depends on your ridings poll numbers.
The majority of ridings are essentially a lock before the election even happens. A minority have a good competition and a small number end up being too close for poll aggregates to predict the day before the election. There is thus a reasonab…
Continue readingThe Global Express: Campaign TV Ads
Other than those stupid lawn signs that flood the cities every time we have an election, TV ads are obviously the most engaging way to capture the emotion of the voter. Other than attack ads, this time around, the parties have taken alternative routes to try to get the votes
Continue readingTattered Sleeve: Ignatieff: I hear a statesman
This piece by Jane Taber of the Globe and Mail harangues Michael Ignatieff for his lack of specifics, but I think he sounds pretty reasonable here: There was no mention of the hydro mega-project in the Liberal platform, released Sunday. But when asked about it Monday, Mr. Ignatieff spoke about
Continue readingTattered Sleeve: Why I support the Greens but vote otherwise
I am a big Green supporter and believe they have the best platform. Dagnammit, I joined the party and contribute a few bucks to show that I care. But I also live in Quebec (and on the island of Montreal) and my local candidate both:a) is a relative lightweight, and
Continue readingTattered Sleeve: Smells like ’93 Spirit
Well I’ll be damned if Michael Ignatieff isn’t suddenly hitting his stride. Now I can’t say I have ever been a big believer in the man as a potential PM, but today has me thinking back to 1993, when a guy who had been reviled as a weak and ineffective
Continue readingPop The Stack: The Real Tyrant in Canada is You
Today, as the Liberals put forward a motion to find the Conservative government in contempt for withholding information and misleading parliament, House government leader John Baird used the phrase “Tyranny of the Majority” to describe the action. I wrote last week about another MP using this same outrageous phrase. It is actually quite surprising for Minister Baird to […]
Continue readingPRE-WRIT RIDING BREAKDOWN – LIBERALS
LIBERAL (as of 25 Mar) SAFE (> 10 pt ahead) = 42 >>> absolute minimum = 42 seats STRONG (5-10 pt ahead) = 15 >>> likely low = 57 seats LEANING (>> current projection = 69 seats CLOSE (>> likely high = 92 […]
Continue readingThe Global Express: Good Ol’ Canadian Politics
So here we go again. The 4th election in 7 years, exactly what Canadians wanted. And in the midst of an economic recovery. You have the Liberals who are the only realistic party that can take over the Conservatives. You have the NDP who are always the 3rd wheel between
Continue readingPop The Stack: Go to the Dance
I’ve got an analogy for the Conservtive party’s stance over the possibility of a coalition. They’re just clever bullies, and they should be treated appropriately. Think back to high school. Lets say there’s this bully who likes the same girl (or guy) as you. They don’t want you to go to the dance because you’ll […]
Continue readingApril Reign: Stephen Harper – He’s Not In It For You!
Stephen ‘we aren’t in election mode‘ Harper’s attack ads on Liberal leader Michael Ignatieff takes various quotes with no context in order to paint him as someone with no love for Canada and apparently by extension no right to govern. Now I’m neither a Liberal nor a great supporter of Ignatieff, however, if this is […]
April Reign – In a time of universal deceit, telling the truth becomes a revolutionary act.
Continue readingHarper Valley: Iggy on the Fun Bus
While federal liberal leader, Michael Ignatieff rides the campaign bus around the country, the Conservatives have launched a series of Anti-Iggy tv ads. The thing is, they’re funny!!! But it shouldn’t ruffle Iggy’s feathers, as his oft seen appearances on CBC’s “This Hour Has 22 Minutes” place him in self depracating comedic roles….you gotta hand […]
Continue readingPop The Stack: The Abdication of Gordon I
BC Finance Minister Colin Hansen was talking this evening to the always awesome Stephen Quinn on CBC Radio and said something funny. He said that they had to suspend the 15% tax cut that His Highness Premier Gordon Campbell had announced just weeks ago because they were in an “interregnum period” between leaders and shouldn’t […]
Continue readingClaude Bechard Passes Away
Former Quebec Liberal Cabinet Minister, Claude Bechard, has passed away at the age of 41 after losing his battle with pancreatic cancer. Mr. Bechard had just stepped down from his post as a cabinet minister hours before the tragic occurrence. He was a…
Continue readingThe Wheatsheaf: Death of a party
The hearty partisans don’t like one another. The ground troops work against each other. The voters believe that the parties are different. But the leadership, i.e. those in the know, does not care. And the pollsters don’t help either. With Angus raising the question of who would be the most
Continue readingPop The Stack: The Myth of the Conscious Political Party
Two links to the growing discussion about suggestions that the Liberals and NDP form some kind of coalition to win the next federal election. First, the Globe. Scott Reid asks that we “Don’t sacrifice the Liberal Party for a coalition of the centre-left”. He makes some good points that the idea of a formal coalition […]
Continue readingTattered Sleeve: Greens, NDP to merge; Layton and May step aside, with support of key Liberal defectors
Could you just imagine a headline like that? Only if you accept the fact that the federal Liberal party is finished as a viable political entity. It was this particular realization, coupled with Warren Kinsella’s post earlier today, that got me thinkin…
