Context watch, Sprung edition…

Another notation of the pile Sprung emails jumped out at me. Here’s how it’s portrayed:

August 7 – Department Head meeting w/ Mayor Cooper & Kevin Lloyd re: benifits of Sprung structures at Centennial Pool/Central Park. Some concerns about Sprung are pointed out re: Insulation & Leed certification.

Here’s the actual content:

Sprung buildings can attain equivalent to LEEDS ‘Silver Standard’ certification, but will not be certified as the process and attributed costs cannot be justified.

Which means the buildings will not be certified; when the library was built, the town decided to spend the money to certify the building a LEEDS Gold, as it represented a bit of a feather in the town’s cap.

However, certification does not affect the quality or energy efficiency of the product — it just means the town can’t go around and boast that it’s a LEEDS-certified building…

OK, flame away…
