Occupy Collingwood Part Deux…

… or the Long March to Truthiness…

On Monday, the folks who want town council to revisit the decision on rec facilities will march from Central Park to town hall. They’ll be wanting answers, but all I suspect is they’ll come away with is frustration and sore feet.

Let’s face it — council’s decision is done, and it is time to make the best of it, regardless of where we fall on the issue of whether the facilities should be centralized in a multi-rec facility at Central Park or spread out across the community, or whether or not we agree how the decision was made.

The fabric is being sown (or however they make it) as I type, so now the question is thus: how do we make it work, and move on from here — because, quite frankly, continuing to drive the wedge in isn’t very helpful.

Ideally, the YMCA would be involved, and there have been discussions between the Y and the town in the last couple of days. Having Y members engage in internecine battles with councillors online or elsewhere won’t be helpful to those efforts.

And while Keith Hull’s questions are instructive, they are also essentially moot at this stage.

So there’s the choice: do people continue to bang their heads against a brick wall? Or does the community pull together to make it work.

Personally, life is to short for the former…
