In light of the Ontario Catholic School Trustees’ Association opposition to gay-straight alliances, and Ontario's large budget deficit, the Green Party of Ontario is the only party showing courage and leadership by calling for the end the wasteful and unjustifiable public funding of only certain religious schools.
Our current system, of funding only certain denominations of a single religion, is unjust and considered discriminatory by the United Nations. Ontario should end public funding of religious schools. It's that or extend funding to all religions, an idea Ontario voters have already rejected.
Recently we ratified our long-standing opposition to public for religious schooling. At the 2012 annual general meeting members voted (with an overwhelming majority) for the creation of just two publicly funded school systems (English and French) in Ontario.
