In a move they surely hope will force their workers to walk off the job the Fordites have delivered an ultimatum in the form of a totally unacceptable (cough) offer that must be accepted by 12:01 Sunday or see it imposed on them by the city.
Clearly this is an attempt to provoke a strike in order to save the city from having to lock out their unionized workers and avoid any possible backlash from the citizens of Toronto.Right from the start this hasn’t been about getting the best deal for the city but about breaking the unions. The sad thing is that there are many in this city who have bought into the unions are our enemy and the pols and corporations are our friends meme so the Ford cabal will likely win.
No matter how this shakes out two things are guaranteed, one this is going to be one long year full of conflict and disruption and two, we will all be diminished by it.
