Peggy Nash

Peggy Nash entered the leadership race at the end of October. I can’t say I was very excited about her campaign, mostly because of what happened at the 2011 Convention in Vancouver.

After delivering her report as party president Nash did not take any questions from the convention floor. When members attempted to ask questions of Nash, and later treasurer Rebecca Blaikie neither executive member readily answered questions. It took a member challenging the chair and 2/3 of the convention floor voting in favour of forcing Nash and Blaikie to answer questions on their reports to get any answers out the two of them. In my view this lack of accountability is the last thing we need in a leader for the party.
In addition to this Nash could not be bothered to chair any part of convention – which was her duty as president of the party. If she can’t be bothered to fulfill those duties, or to be accountable to the membership as the president, I don’t know how should would behave as leader of the party.
