McFadyen Brings Knife to Gun Fight

Poor, poor Hugh.  He`s stuck playing Charlie Brown……again.

I can only imagine the scene over at the Omega Theta Pi Frat House when they were discussing their latest scheme.

“Hey, Hugh!”, says brother Neidermeyer, “I know how we can fix that Greg Selinger, real good!”

“How’s that?”, says Hugh.

“Let’s challenge him!”, says Neidermeyer.

“Challenge him?  whaddaya mean?”, inquires Hugh.

“oh, oh, I know”, interupts pledgling Rabb.  “Let’s challenge Mr. Selinger to get all tough on crime.  Like, like, get him to support the Presidents Bill on getting tough on crime..ya.  ya, that’ll do it.”

“Ohhhh, I dunno”, says Hugh.  “President Harper might be annoyed if we bring Him into it.”

“awwww come on”, says pledgling Steeves.  “All we have to do is put out a news release challenging Mr. Selinger to support the President’s Bill.  There’s no way Selinger would be tough on crime, he’ll back off and start talking about Hydro, or Health Care, or some other boring subject that no one cares about.  He won’t lay a glove on you.”

“YA!”, shouts pledgling Rabb, “Then I can play dress up again and hand out the rest of my monopoly cards.  YAY!|”

“OK.”, “OK.”, “Let’s do it!”,  says Hugh.

And so the latest escapade of the Omega Theta Pi boys was hatched.

They called their contacts and issued a statement calling on Greg Selinger to support the Omnibus Bill.  As reported in the Freep, McFadyen is quoted:

The question is, where is Greg Selinger now?

Giggety.

It took about a New York minute for the response by Selinger:

“Stephen Harper’s new crime bill is a good start, but there’s more to do. Greg Selinger and Today’s NDP will continue to push the federal government to create a new stand-alone criminal offence for car-jackings, home invasions, gang recruitment and knife crimes.”

Ya.  “a good start”.  In other words, the Federal Bill is whimpy _and_, WTF Hugh! Harper has a Majority….as you well know and have relied on in the recent past to stab Manitoba farmers in the back…….Harper has a majority so NDP support isn`t required.

Then we have the most recent Manitoba Minister of Justice, Andrew Swan, commenting:

Most recently, provincial Attorney General Andrew Swan wrote federal Justice Minister Rob Nicholson to say Ottawa’s changes didn’t go far enough.

Swan said changes to the Youth Criminal Justice Act will make it more difficult to hold dangerous young offenders in pre-trial custody.

“Being unable to keep out-of-control youth in custody not only creates a public safety risk, but also undermines public confidence in the justice system as the public sees it as a revolving door, catch and release exercise,” Swan said in the Sept. 1 letter.

In other words Hugh, you`re bringing a knife to a gun fight.  The Federal Bill doesn`t require the support of the Federal NDP; and besides that, the Federal Conservative Bill is whimpy, whimpy, whimpy, when we need hefty, hefty, hefty!

So.

Tell you what.

You go to Ottawa and tell Harper to quit being such a pussy, we`ve already done that.  But leave the clowns with their toy cards at home, this is serious business not a childs game.
