Witch Hunt On Nycole Turmel Shows How Much of Canada Really Doesn’t Get The Bloc Quebecois, Forgets Certain Precedents, And Priorities Screwed

I’m still on the road, in Ford Nation. I thank my co-bloggers for keeping Sister Sage’s Musings current while I’m away. I have quick access to a hotel computer, so I will be brief.  The title pretty much explains how I feel about the tweets and the general reactions from the blogosphere and the corporate media regarding Nycole Turmel’s pas membership with the Bloc Quebecois and current (past?) membership with Quebec Solidaire.

If I manage to get access to prolonged use of a computer before I get back home to Montreal Friday night, I will have a detailed post up as soon as, otherwise, it’ll have to wait until then.

For now, progressives who are chastizing Mme Turmel, I must ask, shouldn’t our priorities not be about her past memberships with the BQ, but whether or not she’ll be an effective opposition leader to the bully, STevie Spiteful?  I mean, we’d all like to hope for the best, that Jack Layton will be back when parliament resumes come September 19, but should the worst happen and he can’t, shouldn’t we concern ourselves more whether or not Mme Turmel can stand up to Stevie Spiteful and how well she can perform in Question Period?

Let’s also remember that Mme Turmel is an interim leader, whether or not Jack Layton returns. Should the worst happen, there will be a leadership vote, where Mme Turmel will not be a contender. According to today’s Hill Times, Joe Comartin says that Jack Layton picked her in order to have a level playing field for a potential leadership vote.

Also, may I remind you that Jean Lapierre was co-founder of the Bloc Quebecois before he became Paul Martin’s transport minister. Was there this much of a witch hunt against him?  I hope that, as a pundit, he is not actively participating in the Nycole Turmel witch hunt. Also,  Lucien Bouchard was an active member of the Parti-Quebecois, almost from its’ infancy, before he became Brian Mulroney’s environment minister. Was there an active witch hunt back then against him?

Again, I will provide a better detailed post, because, as a Quebecer, I am getting pretty pissed at the misinformation going around and feel a need to set certain things straight and I’m not even an NDP partisan.

In the meantime,  Thanks, co-bloggers.
