Kitchener liberals on the move, local MP John Milloy opens Campaign Office

My Saturday began badly. While
running an errand, I had locked myself out of my car and left the keys in the
ignition. The engine was running and I had about thirty minutes to make it on
time for the grand opening of my local liberal MP’s election campaign office.
So I grabbed a crowbar, a
coat hanger and a Phillips screwdriver, yes just like in the movies, and went
to work. Fortunately, 35 minutes later I was able to lower my driver-side
window, with the vehicle taking some minor damage in the process, get into the
car and make it to the campaign office just half-way through Mr. Milloy’s commencement
speech.
A solid number of local committed
liberals were at the opening.
Walking in late and not
knowing what to expect, I found myself talking to a gentleman whom eventually
helped me fill out a volunteer form. Volunteering with my local liberal MP was
something that I always wanted to do but never got around to doing due to a
quirky work schedule.
However, my conversation was
quickly interrupted as Mr. Milloy was getting to the good stuff in his speech.
Many say that the Liberal
era of political dominance is drawing to a close and many more say that this is
due to liberal arrogance, arrogance born of a lengthy tenure in power.
There is a reason why for so
many decades Liberals dominated Canadian politics. It’s not because they were
ruthless or cunning, nor were the liberal leaders political prodigies. They
have been so successful simply because they have done alright by the Canadian
people.
Such is the case with Mr. Milloy;
he too has done alright by the people of Kitchener.
Since being elected as an MP
for Kitchener Center back in 2003, he has helped
implement many policies that have made life easier for many of us. It is a
sound strategy to re-elect someone that has your best interests at heart.
Mr. Milloy has established
since 2008 an overall successful poverty reduction strategy. He has done so by
helping to increase the minimum wage for seven years consecutively in Kitchener,
by actively campaigning for the strengthening and improving of social
assistance in the region, by increasing the Ontario Child Benefit from $600 per
child to $1,100 and by improving other social programs that cater to seniors,
aboriginals, students etc. Read more…
In fact, under his
administration, Kitchener’s
post secondary institutions have received funding to kick-start an aggressive admissions
campaign with the hopes of getting more than 60,000 new students attending the schools
over the next five years.
Mr. Milloy has also been
very active in promoting the business potential of Kitchener
by securing foreign investment and helping to implement small technology hubs
like the Digital Media Hub in Kitchener’s
Tannery district.
His achievements are quite
extensive and would unfortunately go to waste if he were to leave office pre-maturely.
Sure it is true that he has held his seat as a provincial MP for eight years
now, but what is not true is to say that he has wasted those eight years and
has produced no legacy, that he has left nothing for Kitchener Canadians.
Fortunately, despite
opposition, Kitchener
Center has a reliable liberal
candidate in John Milloy. And Mr. Milloy has a reliable and hard-working
volunteer team to help him get re-elected come this October.
