Ontario budget 2011 highlights

Ontario Liberal Party

Today, we made choices that will secure an even brighter future for our children and grandchildren. These choices represent the kind of positive plan Ontario families are looking for. And only Dalton McGuinty and Ontario Liberals can deliver it.

In today’s provincial budget, Finance Minister Dwight Duncan outlined the choices we’ve made as we turn the corner out of recession. Here’s are key points from the budget:

Protecting Education

  • 60,000 more post-secondary spaces created. There will be room for every qualified Ontario student.
  • 50,000 4 & 5 year olds will attend full day kindergarten this September, giving them the best possible start.

Protecting Health Care

  • Breast Cancer Screening for 90,000 more women who are at high risk of developing this devastating disease.
  • A new program to tackle children’s mental health issues.

Eliminating the Deficit

  • The deficit is, once again, lower than projected – $3b lower than forecast a year ago.
  • The government must make public services more affordable and effective for Ontario families by:
    • Reducing the size of the public service;
    • Shutting down old, under-utilized prisons;
    • And establishing the Commission on the Reform of Ontario’s Public Services.

Jobs & Growth

  • Partnering with the private sector to create thousands of new jobs.
  • Supporting our farmers with a new Risk Management Program.
