engulfed and unglued

At some stages of your life you will deal with thingsand at others you are overwhelmed with misery and anxiety. Nigella Lawson

How long does it take for things to overtake ones ability to cope? It seems that the weeks of smoke has sapped us of all energy. It is like we are being bogged down by the ash, the smell, the particulates and the lack of sunlight. We hole up in the house, batten down the hatches and only go out for quick trips of necessity…but this morning we got out because we just had to.With cameras in hand we did the Scout Island early morning walkabout. The birds weren’t so chirpy but a brave few are still in the marsh and lake…maybe the others who I think should be here flew the coop for better air. The heat and the smoke are making for some frazzled nerves which we got a blast of by a fellow morning park goer…who just went off on us for walking by her and her dogs. I think it is because she is overwhelmed by the smoke but Michael says no she is just a whacko. The other day we were driving home and what do we see but a guy talking on his cell phone while he is driving…and this is now against the law in B.C. but you wouldn’t know it for it seems that a whole lot of cell phone users don’t know about the law or they think that the law doesn’t apply to them…well this guy not only almost hits us but then he gives us the finger! Should I blame that on the smoke?

This guy was texting in bumper to bumper traffic!

As we stew in our misery we seem to be in a cocoon…the many problems that in the past that seemed so pressing just get brushed aside…and you just got to know it is bad when gardening becomes a chore and not a pleasure. I feel guilty that I haven’t donated to the Pakistan relief…and now all the Pakistanis are thinking that nobody loves them for they feel forgotten in their misery and devastation. Stephen Harper is again running amuck and holy cow I haven’t even gotten excited about a boatload of Tigers coming ashore like the rest of the red necks who should maybe give their heads a shake and remember what Canada is all about…and wasn’t welcoming the world just what we spent a gajillion dollars on the Olympics? The G20, G8?And aren’t we all here in Canada because we or our Grandparents or Great Grandparents wanted a better life and to get here and many of them came by boat and settled here and there even though there was already someone already living here and there? And Stephen Harper you Schmuck now that I think about it…you should maybe wake up and smell the coffee…wanting to change the laws…Jesus Joseph and Mary!!! You can’t even keep people from bleedin talking and texting while driving, drinking and driving and wearing helmets for god’s sake and you are worried about some people who want to be Canadians? You should be more worried that there are a whole lot of Canadians who don’t want to be Canadians anymore because of how you are redefining what a being a Canadian is all about! Wow I guess I really blew the smoke out of my ass and got rid of the apathy…now to the Red Cross site and tomorrow…

Our most basic common link is that we all inhabit this planet. We all breathe the same air. We all cherish our children’s future. And we are all mortal. John F. Kennedy
