The Harper government wants to axe the long-form census to facilitate social spending cuts by pointing to the inaccuracy of data being used by groups to justify their funding requests.
All other discussions – about selection bias, Bernier invoking Trudeau, bedroom activities, and refusals to comply, regardless of their worth as stand-alone discussions, are a distraction from the real threat arising from this saga.
I would even argue that some of these distractions are planned. This level of incompetence about basic concepts is mindboggling. In fact, its too mindboggling to not be a ruse, which I believe it is.
My theory: That the Reformatories are engaging in stupidity because they know that liberals and experts alike cannot resist pointing out their obvious flaws. When we do this everyone else tunes out. When everyone tunes out, Harper wins.
